Message from Rev Fred re Inflammatory Rhetoric

We live in a time of fear due to (among other things) horrible, inhumane terrorist acts.

And we live in a time of fear-mongering which is supported by a broken
political system and fueled by the fear produced by horrible,
inhumane terrorist acts and horrible, inhumane rhetoric.
 It’s a vicious cycle.
It’s a cycle that we, as people of faith, are called to break.

I invite you to read below a statement from the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County. Hillcrest is a leader in Interfaith work; we work closely with our Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and other religious partners to support each other’s ministries on behalf of peace and justice for all. Our work and witness together, especially during times like these, is what God calls us to and what the world needs.

During the Advent season AND throughout the year, the words of the Angel to Mary say it best: “Do not be afraid.”

And Mary’s responses serve to keep us centered and strong:
                   1) “Here I am,” and
                   2) “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices
                        in God my Savior.”

Let the Angel’s proclamation, and Mary’s faith, and the promise of the Christ child keep your soul strong,
                             your spirit light, and
your feet moving ever in the direction of
the way of peace and joy and light
. AMEN.
