Hillcrest is a gathering place for Faith and Action in the community. We are about to celebrate our 70th Anniversary in ministry (in 2021). When we were founded, the city of Pleasant Hill had not yet been established, and Gregory Lane was still a “lane.” A lot has changed; our mission and ministry haven’t.
Hillcrest has always been rooted in following the call of Jesus Christ to grow in our relationship with God and with others and with the whole world. Our worship and education ministries have always meaningfully reflected, and responded to, our times. Our social service ministries began within our first year when we started our “Layette Ministry” to provide clothing and supplies for newborns for families in need. That was quickly followed by the establishment of our Clothing Room and Community Food Pantry; and about fifteen years following that, Hillcrest helped to found the Contra Costa Food Bank (now the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano). Our openness to Interfaith and Multifaith work and partnerships followed soon after that, and Hillcrest remains a leader in our area—The Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County has its offices on our campus.
Our story is the story of faith in action in and for the community. Our story is the story of worshipping and learning and working and playing together. Our story is the story of providing comfort and sharing joy. Our story is the story all who join us to grow and to serve!
