Hillcrest Family,

As part of my responsibilities as Hillcrest Social Justice Committee Chair, I serve on the Racial Justice Task Force of the Multi-Faith Action Coalition (MFAC)In that capacity, I invite you to read the following email and to contact your California Legislators. I believe that these actions are in line with the dedication to Racial Justice that we have expressed in our church.

Here’s what it’s all about.

The California legislature is in session throughout the month of August and will vote on all 2021-22 legislation by the end of the month. Any bills not passed in August will be considered dead.

Attached are two letters sent by MFAC to key legislators advocating for all MFAC-supported bills. We are sharing these letters with our faith communities and invite you to contact your Senator or Assembly person in support of any bill you feel strongly about. This needs to happen in August before the legislative session ends.

The status of these bills changes every day as votes are taken. To check the status of any bill on a given day, follow this link: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/home.xhtml and type in the number of the bill in the space provided.

Assembly Bills: The Assembly Bills passed out of the Assembly and are now in the Senate. In July the MFAC letter was sent to Senators Glazer, Skinner and Dodd. Since the letter was sent, AB 2050 (Reform Holding Period) and AB 2053 (Social Housing Act) are considered ‘dead.’

Senate Bills: The Senate Bills passed out of the Senate and are now in the Assembly. In July the MFAC letter was sent to Assembly Members: Bauer-Kahan, Grayson, Wicks and Wilson. Since the letter was sent, SB 1336 (Affordable Housing on Faith Institution and Nonprofit College Property) unfortunately is considered ‘dead.’

If you don’t know who to call, here you can find who your representatives are: https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/

Thank you for your consideration!
