What is Jesus doing on the first Sunday of Lent?
One of the reasons why I love the Lenten season is the stories about Jesus. The twists and turns
of the numerous miracles and holy encounters are more exciting than any Netflix series. On this
first Sunday of Lent, we hear about how Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert. In each of
the temptations described, Jesus was faced with the choice of spending his time and energy on
activities that would lead him away from God. The Lenten season is a time when all
Christendom turns with Jesus to face the Cross. It’s a time of reflection, of receiving and giving,
and of losing and finding. It’s a time to examine the stories and learn as we explore our new
worship series “What is Jesus Up to?”.
