Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hillcrest Church Office will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

But let justice roll down like water and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
 – Amos 5:24
In his 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech, Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “We will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream”. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. understood that life-giving water holds the potential to be placid and potent, resilient, and renewing, fluid yet forceful. In the 60s, and even today, our country holds on to some unloving laws and ways. But Dr. King gave his life, challenging the church to lead the way through love. Jesus said, “By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another” (John 13:35, CSB). Loving is not always easy, but we must strive to love everyone as Jesus would love. We must learn to love people who are not like us so we can create a space for the gospel message. This MLK Day, may we honor a man well worth our respect who led the way with Jesus and did what was right. His mission of unity and fight for justice continues with us, the people of God.
