June 2023 Monthly Message

Pastor’s Message

It seems that the older I get, the more I learn to love my dad for who he is; not for who I thought he should have been. He has always been a good man – a hard worker, dedicated, and a provider. But growing up, I thought I needed more from him – more hugs, more tenderness, more lets-sit-down-and-talk-about-our-feelings. But that wasn’t who my dad was and sometimes I felt disappointed, I compared him to others, blamed some of my life choices on my perception that he wasn’t “there” enough.

But the truth is, God knew long before we showed up on this earth that we’d be family. God knew that my dad’s strengths and struggles would come together with my own to create a relationship, and it would be a journey, and if we allowed it, we’d both benefit from it. God would use those things to grow us more and more into the people God created us to be

Through the years, I’ve come to realize that my dad did the very best he could with what he had at the time as a father and that he is a great dad. And I’ve discovered how deeply he cared for me (quirks and all!) even if he showed it in different ways than I do. In addition, I know that my kids will experience the very same things with me

There are all kinds of fathers and father figures, yours may be a whole different story.

But there is one thing they all share: No matter what their personalities, gifts, struggles, circumstances… every one of them is called to live God’s way. And when they do, their families are blessed, communities are strengthened, and a ripple effect of goodness happens in the world

There are lots of opportunities to celebrate and gather during the month of June. In addition to Father’s Day, join us Sunday June 11th as we celebrate Music Sunday through the hymns and songs of Hillcrest. Immediately following service, we will hold our Annual Meeting with a Potluck Brunch in the Fellowship Hall.  June is Pride Month, dedicated to the LGBTQIA community. Hillcrest to proud to support and attend “Pride in the Plaza” Saturday June 17th 12p-6p in Todos Santos Plaza, Concord. On Sunday June 25th we will have a special presentation from The Haelen Center. I pray that we see your juicy face!

Happy Father’s Day and Congratulations to all of our Graduates!
