Can’t Remember Where you left Your Keys?
Congratulations! Your memory may be up-to date!
New research emphasizes that memory doesn’t work like a video camera capturing a single version of events. It’s constantly being over-written and edited with new information.
Just ask Joel Voss, Northwestern University Neuroscientist: ”Everyone likes to think memory lets us vividly remember our childhoods or what we did last week. But memory is designed to help us make good decisions in the moment. It therefore has to stay up-to date by editing and over-writing what we thought we knew.”
So, frequent forgetting of new information only demonstrates just how much we already know!
Feel better? I do!
